LUXEMBOURG: Setia City Mall, Malaysia’s first green retail mall, was accorded international recognition with the gold award in the retail category at the Federation of International Real Estate (Fiabci) Prix d’Éxcellence Awards 2014 ceremony here.

The mall was developed by Greenhill Resources Sdn Bhd – a joint venture between S P Setia Bhd and Asian Retail Investment Fund, which is a fund managed by Lend Lease, an international integrated property and infrastructure company.

Setia City Mall, which is located in S P Setia’s 4,000-acre Setia Alam township, has over 740,000 sq ft of net lettable areas and over 2,500 car parks and 240 retailers over four levels.

Greenhill Resources said the Fiabci Prix d’Éxcellence ranked among the most prestigious of global real estate awards and honoured projects that reflected excellence and distinction in all real estate segments.

The award is the latest achievement for Setia City Mall, which is the first Malaysian mall accorded the Malaysian Green Building Index Silver Award and the Singapore Building and Construction Authority Green Mark Gold Award.

It has also won The Edge-PAM Green Excellence Award and Fiabci Malaysia Property Award 2013 (winner in the retail category).

“Winners were selected based on their overall concept, design and architecture, development and construction, financing and marketing, environmental impact and benefit to the community,” said Greenhill Resources, in a statement, about the mall as the co-owners focused on an environmentally sustainable model.

Greenhill Resources said the award affirmed the mall’s leadership as a contemporary lifestyle hub incorporating the best of retail experience and environmental features to ensure a minimal ecological impact.

Sixty-one judges from 31 countries short-listed Setia City Mall for its sustainable development model, innovative concept and social benefits.

S P Setia acting president and chief executive officer Datuk Voon Tin Yow, who was at the ceremony on Wednesday to accept the award, said: “Winning our sixth Fiabci Prix d’Éxcellence Award through Setia City Mall, our very first foray into retail development, is indeed rewarding and is an exemplary showcase of a successful cross-nation partnership enabling the convergence of S P Setia’s local expertise with the global credentials of Lend Lease.”

He said the Setia Mall had not only transformed the retail landscape of the “catchment with a level of city sophistication, most importantly it was also an environmentally responsible place to shop’’.

Voon said Setia City Mall’s sustainable status was consistent with S P Setia’s philosophy as pioneering eco-friendly projects in Malaysia and abroad through townships which were in harmony with nature such as Setia Eco Park, which was a two-time winner of the Fiabci Prix d’Éxcellence Award in 2007 and 2011.
