Perda City Mall gets two anchor tenants

KUALA LUMPUR: Parkson Corp Sdn Bhd and Econsave Cash & Carry Sdn Bhd have been signed on as anchor retailers of the soon-to-be opened Perda City Mall in Seberang Prai, Penang.

The mall was previously opened in August 2008, and was known as the Aeon Seberang Prai City. It is currently closed for three months, from July until September, for upgrading to be carried out.

The upgrading, valued at more than RM30mil, mainly involves converting under-utilised areas into additional retail space on the second floor.

Parkson’s venture into Perda City Mall as an anchor tenant is in line with its strategy to add another 10% in trading space yearly.

“With this site, we have scheduled to open three more outlets before the end of this year,” said Parkson executive director Toh Peng Koon on Wednesday.

Econsave director Lai Sia Ling said: “With its strategic location and consumer-friendly shopping environment, we believe that Perda City Mall is a place to be watched.”

Perda City Mall is easily accessible via Penang’s main linkages, namely the PLUS Highway, Butterworth-Kulim Expressway, Penang Bridge and also the second Penang bridge.

It is surrounded by a big catchment population of over 900,000 people with more than 100,000 of them staying within a 5km-radius from the mall.

“Parkson and Econsave, together with a large number of tenants previously under the previous mall management will remain to be part of the newly upgraded mall when it re-opens in September this year,” said Perda City Mall property manager Adzman Shah Mohd Ariffin.

Among them would be McDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut, Old Town Kopitiam, Giordano and also Switch Apple Store, he added.

Located at the heart of the new Perda township, in between Seberang Jaya and Bukit Mertajam, Perda City Mall is occupying a net lettable area of about 790,000 sq feet.
