Pahang MB wants transparency for TOL issuance to smallholders

KUANTAN: Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob is welcoming the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to join the Cameron Highlands administration committee to ensure the issuance of temporary occupation licences (TOL) is transparent.

He said MACC's involvement could correct public perception in the matter of issuing TOL to smallholders there.

"There have been many reports before this, painting the land clearing situation in Cameron Highlands as rampant.

“This has surely brought negative perception against the state government," Adnan said after presenting the Mentri Besar awards for excellent students.

He added that the proposal to assign MACC officers within the Cameron Highlands administration committee would be brought up in the next state executive council meeting.

Adnan had previously said that the Pahang government issued TOL to deserving farmers in Cameron Highlands.

He also said the illegal land clearing in Cameron Highlands was perpetuated by large syndicates and blame should not be heaped on smallholders and the state government. "How is it possible for smallholders to bulldoze the entire hill for their farming activities.

“This matter has been brought to the attention of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

"They have ordered the state government to solve this problem and we will do it with the help of the relevant authorities.

“We will make sure these syndicates receive their just punishment," he said.- The Star
