Seremban-Port Dickson railway line to be rebuilt

SEREMBAN - The 39km Seremban-Port Dickson railway line, a vital link that has been closed for more than seven years, will be rebuilt.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the project would be carried out under the 11th Malaysia Plan next year.

"We have decided to rehabilitate the stretch under the Railway Master Plan as it is an important link.

"This will help boost economic and tourism activities as well as be a catalyst for growth in the proposed Malaysian Vision Valley project," he said after opening the state MCA annual general meeting here.

Liow said he had talked to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who had on several occasions appealed to the Federal Government to rehabilitate the line.

The Seremban-Port Dickson line was closed in July 2008 following the derailment of a freight train transporting diesel from a refinery in Port Dickson to Ipoh.

Liow said once rehabilitated, passenger services would be reintroduced.

Earlier, when opening the AGM, Liow, who is party president, commended current state chief Datuk Seri King Lim for reuniting the divisional leaders.

"I have already told them to start working hard as we only have about two years before the next general election," he said.
