Cross protest: Selangor police take over investigation

PETALING JAYA: The Taman Medan church protest investigation has been taken over by Selangor police with the case being looked at under the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) and Penal Code for trespassing.

Selangor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Samah Mat, however said that the case was being classified under the PAA and the trespassing element was to allow police to probe the case first.

"We will review all the evidence to see what offences were committed and that will be done only after the investigation is complete," he said.

He added that police should be wrapping up the investigation soon without specifying when.

SDCP Abu Samah also said that police would only wrap up their investigations once all those involved in the incident had been questioned.

The site of the protest in Metro Square has become a ghost town, with little activity and few people around the row of barely-occupied shoplots.

The inactivity there was in stark contrast to the protest there two Sundays ago, which sparked nationwide controversy and debate.
