KLANG: For the first five months this year, the crime index in Selangor has shown a reduction, with only 12,869 cases reported compared to 15,647 cases during the same period, last year.
Selangor police chief Datuk Abdul Samah said this is a good achievement and he hoped the crime rate in the state will continue to go down. “The statistics has shown an improvement. I have laid down nine cores to combat crime in the state. "The reason I came up with this plan is because many Malaysians are still having a bad perception of the police as well as how crimes in Selangor are solved.
“We want to change that perception by organising a lot of community programmes including community policing. "In one of my nine key areas, I have ensured that we must enhance and strengthen our investigation strategy, especially getting more facts and evidence before we charge the suspects,” he said at a press conference after the witnessing the handover of duty ceremony from outgoing Klang Selatan police chief ACP Kamarul Zaman Mamat to ACP Azman Abdul Razak, here, today.
He said although crime still occur, the police are taking the necessary steps to bring down the crime rate. In Klang Selatan, the crime rate index has shown a reduction of 18.9 per cent from January to May, this year. Azman will officially assume his duty starting from today.
