KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Motorists using five highways will enjoy a toll discount of 10 to 20 per cent for Class 1 vehicles (cars) in conjunction with the National Day 2015 celebration.
The Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) and Smart Tunnel will offer a discount of 20 per cent and Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya), New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas), a discount of 10 per cent.
The discount offers for DUKE, Besraya, NPE and Lekas starts on Aug 31 from 12.01am to midnight, while for the Smart Tunnel it begins at 6am on Aug 31 to 6am on Sept 1.
North-East Consortium (KL) Sdn Bhd (Kesturi) director, Zakaria Shaffie said the discount was for road users making payments via the electronic toll collection (ETC) system.
“This effort is to promote the use of electronic payment cards. The DUKE is also among the expressways which will implement the electronic toll collection system on Sept 9,” he said in a statement today.
Syarikat Mengurus Air Banjir dan Terowong Sdn Bhd (Smart) chief operating officer, Mohd Fuad Kamal Ariffin said the toll rate for the Smart Tunnel after discount would only be RM1.60 compared with RM2 for each way in and out of Kuala Lumpur.
IJM Toll Division chief operating officer, Wan Salwani Wan Yusoff described the 10 per cent discount for toll plazas at Besraya, NPE and Lekas (Ampangan toll plaza only), as a corporate social responsibility initiative to benefit motorists planning to travel with their families during the public holiday.
She said southbound motorists were encouraged to use Lekas for a comfortable journey and likewise those eastbound to use Besraya from Salak Selatan or Jalan Istana to MRR2 through the Loke Yew toll plaza. — Bernama
