14 Dirty Food Premises Ordered To Close For 14 Days

SEREMBAN, April 26 (Bernama) -- Fourteen food premises in and around Port Dickson were ordered to close for 14 days for failing to meet hygiene criteria.

The order was issued during the 'Clean Food Premises Operation 2016' conducted by the Negeri Sembilan Health Department last Friday.

State health director Dr Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the order was made under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 or notices under Section 32B for being unhygienic.

"Twenty-eight food premises were identified as failing to meet the requirements under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 and compounded a total of RM16,050," he said in a statement, here, Tuesday.

"The main focus of the operation is the enforcement of the Food Act 1983 and Food Hygiene Regulations 2009, which emphasise cleanliness of premises and food handling. The issue of dirty food premises has been raised by various quarters of late."

Abdul Rahim said that last year, 5,676 food premises in the state were inspected and 128 or 26.2 per cent were ordered closed for not being kept clean.

He said during the same period, 276 compounds totalling RM149,660 were issued on premises that failed to comply with the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
